Discover The Compass For Your Life

Have you ever wished that you had a compass for your life? Something that would point you in the right direction and help you make better choices? Years ago, I discovered a compass for my life, and I can show you how to find yours too!

Over twenty years ago I answered the question, “Why do I exist?” and discovered my life purpose. Knowing my life purpose is like knowing true north. It serves to properly orient me, even if my circumstance and surrounding change.

Do you have a burning desire to move from success to significance… to discover something more meaningful that rises above perks and paychecks at work? Understanding why I exist has fulfilled this desire in my own life and given me meaning and purpose.

Your life purpose is the reason why you were uniquely made and placed on this planet. When you discover it, it is like a beacon that shows the way in every area of your life.

You can identify your life purpose by using two simple guidelines.

1. What do you care deeply about?

The first guideline is about your passion – It is discovering that something which really excites you.

You can either surrender to your circumstances, or you can surrender to a cause that is so great, your circumstances won’t matter.

When we surrender to our circumstances, we have good days and bad days. We are at the mercy of what happens to us.

But when you surrender to a cause or purpose, you have good days wherever you go. The purpose never dies.

Your passion will help you conclude that it didn’t matter what happened to you so long as the purpose continues because it is all about what has happened in you.

Passion is the fuel for the will. When you discover what you want badly enough, you can find the willpower to achieve it. And you are a more dedicated and productive person.

2. What have you achieved?

The second guideline is about your competence – It is discovering that special something that you’re good at.

When your skills are sharp and when you home-in on the “one thing” that is your strength, it will make you say, “I was born to do this.”

As you look deeply enough inside of you and are honest about combining your passion with your competence, you will find your life purpose – the answer to the question, ”Why do I exist?”

Remember, this is a process. It will take time to learn about yourself. The process is as important as the product. The key is to be authentic and be yourself. There is only one of you to do what you were created for.

Once you understand your life purpose, you will prioritize your life according to that purpose. Without a clear life purpose, you’ll continually get off track, and you may never feel a real sense of fulfillment and completion.

As a leader, you are accustomed to listening to consultants, supervisors, employees, and market research. Now it’s time to listen to your inner voice. It is a time to take stock, to listen, and to learn!

My Life Purpose

You may be wondering, “Bobby, what did you discover to be your life purpose?” First, I want you to know that my journey to understand why I exist was a multi-step process.

• It all started when I read the book, In Search of Excellence, by Tom Peters and Robert Waterman. This led me to prepare a company mission statement for my business.

• The process of identifying our company mission statement motivated me to begin to pause, reflect, and think more about my personal mission and purpose in life.

• Then I read the book, Choose Your Attitudes Change Your Life, by Robert Jeffress. While reading this book is when I discovered my life purpose.

I discovered: The reason why I exist is to be a model Christian businessman.
