Walt Disney’s brother, Roy said, “It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.”
Okay, before you pass over that quote and let it flow down the river of “that’s nice, but let’s get going” I suggest we pause and think about it.
Life and business can be hard. The workplace is full of challenges; the marketplace is teeming with competitors. What’s a leader to do?
Disney is offering us a precious jewel of advice.
And the benefits are enormous. You could say that our lives are defined by the decisions we make. (e.g., who we decide to associate with, what we decide to believe, where we decide to spend our time, what we decide to purchase, who we decide to marry, etc.)
So, Disney is saying, if we know our values, making the right – the best – decisions becomes easy. WOW – I don’t know about you, but I’m up for anything that makes my decision making easier.
What if I don’t know my core values?
The next thing you may be thinking is, “I’m not sure if I really know my values”. Well, I know the feeling. Years ago, I struggled to identify my values. It was a hard process, but I did discover my values and learned a lot along the way.
